As part of any company’s CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), it’s important they look at how to reduce their impact on the environment. That’s precisely what we do as part of our processes here at Unique Windows London, finding new and innovative ways to cut our carbon footprint. This year, we’ve been looking at some of the ways we can go green, considering our own contribution to sustaining the environment and the example we want to set as a business. Here are just some of the things we’ve implemented which we hope will make a difference.
We love to work with manufacturers and suppliers who also share our passion for sustaining the environment. One of the products we’re passionate about is Kömmerling’s eco solutions for windows. They’ve implemented Greenline technology into their uPVC collections which they guarantee is lead-free. It’s important to remove lead from window and door products as the metal remains in the environment indefinitely and acts as a pollutant. They also provide a scheme in which they take away old uPVC for recycling when installing their products.
Lowering Our Emissions
When you’re a window and door installer, you usually have a lot of appointments to attend from conducting in-depth site surveys to visiting homes and carrying out design consultations. This means using and emitting a high volume of fuel each year. We’ve invested in a Nissan LEAF car which we now use to travel to our appointments. It won the prize for ‘Best Electric Car’ at the Whatcar? Awards this year thanks to its excellent performance and low running costs.
By switching to a 100% electric car, we produce zero emissions, with no petrol required to operate or run the vehicle. Nissan manufactured the car as part of their plan to preserve and protect the environment, understanding that electric is the future of the motor industry. With more of us switching to electric cars than ever before, we’re hoping we can improve air pollution considerably.
Reducing Paper Consumption
We all know how much paper you can find in any office, and there was a time when we printed without thinking. However, going as paperless as possible is a contribution we’re working towards, helping to save trees and cut down on the pollution caused by paper manufacturing. With advances in technology, it’s now easier and even preferable to receive content in a digital form. This is why we now only give out paper copies of brochures if requested, opting to email information about our product line to customers or they can download information from our site. On our product downloads page, you can find everything you need from the Residence 7S window brochure to details about our composite front doors.
This year we’re making an extra effort to go green, and we hope that we’ve given you some inspiration to do so too.
