Nowadays, there are so many types of glass to choose from for your windows that you can really solve any window-related problem! Whether you need to childproof your windows, boost privacy in a certain room or make your home more soundproof, the type of glass you pick can help you do so. Here are just some of the types of glass available for your home.

Shatterproof glass

You might opt for shatterproof glass in your windows if you often have small children in your home. It is also an ideal choice if you want to boost the security of your property. It is essentially double glazing that has a sheet of plastic or resin between the glass panes, so that, if the window is smashed, the glass shards stay in place rather than shattering all over the floor. As well as preventing injuries like little ones cutting their fingers and toes on the glass, shatterproof glass also makes it difficult for would-be intruders to break in – stopping them from climbing through the window, and alerting you before further damage is done.

Frosted or textured glass

If your property is overlooked by another house or is at street level, you might get frosted or textured glass in the rooms where privacy is an issue. This glass is standard in bathrooms, and can either cover the entire window or just the bottom half of the glass. There are many styles of frosted and textured glass available to suit your personal preferences. If you want to try out the look before committing to it, you could always apply a temporary privacy film – these are widely available and simply need to be stuck to the inside of your windows.

Acoustic glass

Double glazing is ideal for reducing noise intrusions within the home. If you live on a very noisy street or above a pub or bar, you might want to take this one step further by investing in acoustic glass. This is similar to double glazing, except that it features an acoustic interlayer between the two panes of glass to dampen any sounds that pass through the unit. If you currently have single glazing, then simply upgrading to double glazing should make your home significantly more soundproof (or secondary glazing if you live in a period home).
